Máire Mhac an tSaoi

Máire Mhac an tSaoi, one of the most acclaimed Irish language poets and writers, was born in Dublin in 1922.
Her main collections are: Margadh na Saoire (1956); Codladh an Ghaiscigh (1973); An Galar Dubhach (1980), and An Cion go dtí Seo (1987).

Her autobiography, The same age as the state, was published by the The O’Brien Press in 2003. She has also published A Heart Full of Thought, a selection of translations from Classical Gaelic poetry, and is recognised as one of the leading authorities on Munster Irish.

She won the O’Shaughnessy Poetry Award of the Irish American Cultural Institute, 1988, and was awarded a D. Lit. Celt. honoris causa by the National University of Ireland in 1992.
She lives in Dublin.
