Seán Cotter

Seán Cotter was born in 1969 in Monasterevin, Co. Kildare and is a graduate of The National College of Art and Design, Dublin.

He has held numerous solo exhibitions since, which, most recently include Hinterland at Gormleys Art Gallery in Belfast 2013, Memorate at Millennium Court Arts Centre, Portadown 2011, The Slow Decent at Gormleys, Dublin 2010, The Traveller at The Basement Gallery, Dundalk 2009 and Notational Morphologies at Lapua Art Museum, Lapua, Finland 2008 and Galway Arts Festival 2009.

He has been involved in over 30 group exhibitions throughout Europe since 1991, exhibiting in England, Scotland, Germany, France, Norway, Finland and Ireland. Cotter has created solo exhibitions for Eigse Carlow Arts Festival 2005 and Galway Arts Festival 1994 and 2009 and been both invited and selected for the Royal Hibernian Academy Annual Exhibition over the past four years.

He has received grants from The Arts Council, Louth Local Authority, Kildare and Galway Corporations and held residencies in Ireland, Finland and Germany, and curated ‘7.42’ an international touring exhibition in 2011/12. In 2008 he was commissioned by Kildare County Council to create a series of drawings and a painting.

His work is included in the collections of The Lapua Art Museum Finland, Limerick City Gallery of Art, The Contemporary Irish Art Society, Office of Public Works, Aviva Investors London, College of Humanities Limerick, Kildare, Louth and Wicklow County Councils and Drogheda Borough Council and in the private collections of President Michael D Higgins, and the Pulitzer prize winning journalist Ron Brownstein.
